Respiratory Therapist

Jamaica Plain, MA

Boston-area hospital has per diem day shift and night shift openings for a Respiratory Therapists to work the weekdays and weekends.

Job Summary:

General duties include: coordinating the general quality of respiratory care, assuming responsibility for the complete respiratory care of patients on a one-to-one, therapist to patient relationship, acting as a consultant and advisor to problems and questions concerning respiratory care, monitoring and evaluating general patient conditions for the purpose of initiating changes in the patient’s ventilatory status, initiating and conducting patient education as needed and cleaning and maintaining equipment.

Responsibilities include:
  • Administering all HHN therapies and charts in appropriate area of patient chart.
  • Administering and initiating any oxygen/aerosol therapy as ordered.
  • Instructing patients in Incentive Spirometry and Peak Flow Monitor use.
  • Maintaining respiratory therapy stock and assuring supplies are adequate for oncoming shift.
  • Performing QC and maintenance for Blood Gas Analyzer
  • Performing ABG punctures, analyzing and completing all paperwork/documentation.
  • Performing ventilator checks Q4 hours and PRN, completing ventilator flow sheet each time.
  • Performing Sputum Induction procedures.
  • Performing walk studies, overnight sleep study testing, MDI instruction as needed.
  • Assessing and documenting airway patency and stability Q4 hours for tracheotomy patients.
  • Ensuring all respiratory equipment is functioning properly.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Proficiency and demonstrated competency in the above general duties and responsibilities.
  • RRT credentialed
  • ACLS Current
  • CPR Certified
  • Minimum 3 years experience in Adult Respiratory Care
