Respiratory Therapist
Tewksbury, MA

Tewksbury-area hospital has per diem day shift openings for Respiratory Therapists to work every other weekend and occasional holidays.
Shift: 8:00am-4:30pm.

Job Summary:
General duties include: Provide diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory care services to patients.  Aid in the restoration of health through the use of respiratory care under the direction of attending clinicians. Performs job-related duties as required. 

Responsibilities include:
  • Administer respiratory treatments to young adult to geriatric patients, such as oxygen therapy via mask, cannula face tent and tracheotomy, aerosol therapy, pulmonary function testing and ECG monitoring.
  • Monitor patient use of oxygen equipment through daily rounds.
  • Assist, trouble shoot all respiratory equipment.
  • Provide education and application of PAP therapy.
  • Cleans all equipment according to department policy and manufacturer recommendation.
  • Actively participate in all emergency medical responses while on duty.
  • Take inventory of all equipment of the Respiratory Department.
  • Order supplies when necessary from Central Supply and vendors.
  • Attend Department meetings to discuss problems and establish priorities for the resolution of identified problems.
  • Confer with clinicians on the effective uses of selected treatments to be given to the patients when necessary.
  • Attend Patient Care Conferences to plan treatment approaches with other hospital departments.
  • Participate in the planning operation of additional programs such as Pulmonary rehabilitation.
  • Work with other department to develop a comprehensive treatment approach to include patient/family education.
  • Participate in the ongoing education of Nursing Staff through department in-services.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Proficiency and demonstrated competency in the above general duties and responsibilities.
  • RRT credentialed
  • ACLS Current
  • CPR Certified
  • Minimum 3 years experience in Adult Respiratory Care
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, patients and families.
  • Working knowledge of Respiratory Therapy practices and principles.
  • Working knowledge of the use of Respiratory Therapy equipment.
  • Working knowledge of PAP devices and associated equipment.
  • Working knowledge of ECG monitoring.
